The body of Yohanes Kidane, a 22-year-old Software Engineer graduate who had just moved to the Bay Area to work with Netflix, was found near the Golden Gate Bridge last week and has been positively identified.

What Happened?

Yohanes Kidane was reported missing on August 14 after moving to San Jose, California, to start a role as a software engineer at Netflix.

He had been last seen entering a black Toyota Camry with an Uber sticker on 28 N 4th St. San Jose, wearing grey sweatpants, a black hoodie and black shoes.

Kidane had moved from New York to the Bay Area on July 26 to start his new role at Netflix after graduating from Cornell University with a degree in computer science.

He started the position on August 7 and disappeared one week later.

Kidane’s older brother Yosief told Fox KTVU that his brother was heading to San Francisco to maybe meet a friend.

On the Tuesday following his disappearance, a commuter had found Kidane’s phone and wallet south of the Golden Gate Bridge.

The police also found his backpack the following day, but his two laptops and personal documents did not seem to have been touched.

An Update On Yohanes Kidane

According to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, a passing boat spotted Kidane’s body floating in the Bay northeast of the bridge on Tuesday, August 29.

The sheriff’s office said the remains were not immediately identifiable, but they were positively identified on August 31, and his family was informed.

The cause of death was determined to be blunt impact injuries, with drowning as a significant contributing condition.

The police have not suspected foul play in the case.
