The Video App Democratizing African Content Creation

Published:

BeSocial, a short-form video app that empowers Black and African creators, is carving out a space in the tech landscape.

The platform aims to combine short-form content, the practicality of social shopping, and social commerce.

BeSocial

Founded in 2022 by Kwesi Buabeng, a former executive at Ecobank, Google, and Coinbase, and his team, BeSocial’s vision is democratizing content creation.

The focus on Black and African creators is a move acknowledging their role as trendsetters in social media, often without adequate recognition or compensation.

Since its beta launch, BeSocial has been a hub of creativity and innovation, initially working with 1,000 creators, primarily from Ghana

The app, already live in Ghana and Nigeria, plans to expand its reach across Africa, including Kenya and South Africa

Africa’s creator economy

BeSocial’s vision aligns with the growth projections of the creator commerce industry, currently valued at $25 billion and expected to surge to $75 billion by 2025.

In Africa’s creator economy, valued at $3.08 billion in 2023 and anticipated to reach $17.84 billion by 2030, BeSocial stands as a platform for economic growth and creative expression.

With over 2,100 creators onboarded, the platform offers creators control and ownership over their content, from advertising revenue to tips, gifts, and merchandise sales; creators on BeSocial keep most of their earnings.

BeSocial’s curated content feed showcases talent, from comedy and dance routines to debates on social issues.
