Ovom Care, a pioneering German startup in the fertility sector, recently closed €4.8 million ($5.1 million) in seed funding to expand its services across Europe, according to Tech Funding News.
Led by an all-female founding team, Ovom Care is at the forefront of integrating empathetic reproductive healthcare by using a combination of generative AI and computer vision.
This investment round, led by Alpha Intelligence Capital and supported by Ananda Impact Ventures and Merantix, makes the company’s total funding €6.1 million ($6.5 million).
The startup is set to open its first clinic in Portugal by late 2024, and the funds will also accelerate the development of its AI platform.
Revolutionizing Fertility Care with AI
Founded by Lynae Brayboy, Cristina Hickman, and Felicia von Reden, Ovom Care harnesses the power of AI to improve fertility treatments and make them more accessible and affordable.
Dr Lynae Brayboy, a key figure in Ovom Care, brings a wealth of knowledge in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.
As Clue’s first Chief Medical Officer and a Lewis Katz Temple University School of Medicine graduate, Dr Brayboy’s research focuses on the intersection of technology and women’s health, particularly for women of color.
Brayboy told Sifted that the solution Ovom Care uses is a treatment plan tailored to the individual.
Using predictive AI models, based on things like sleep patterns, stress levels and hormone levels, Ovom says it can personalise the type of medication offered, the dosage, timings and lifestyle advice that patients receive as they go through treatment.
This approach increases treatment success rates and introduces pricing models, including reimbursements if pregnancy is not achieved.
“Our mission is to drastically improve treatment success rates, increase accessibility, and drive patient centricity along the fertility journey,” said Felicia von Reden, Co-Founder and CEO of Ovom Care.
Industry Perspectives
Investors are enthusiastic about Ovom Care’s potential to disrupt the traditional fertility landscape.
“Before investing in Ovom Care, we have spent the year comparing various AI-enabled fertility solutions and assessment tools,” said Terry Chou, partner at Alpha Intelligence Capital.
“Ovom, being a digital-first AI-enabled clinic, has provided a great platform for different AI-powered fertility solutions to bring together their value, a collective intelligence revolutionizing the reproductive care space.”
