Nvidia Partners With California Black Media To Preserve Black Journalism With AI

Nvidia, a global leader in AI, has announced a strategic partnership with California Black Media (CBM) aimed at supporting Black-owned newspapers across California. 

This collaboration will create a resource that uses AI to preserve nearly a century of journalism by Black journalists in the state.

Training AI on a Century of Black Journalism

The partnership will see Nvidia train a large language model (LLM) on nearly a century of journalism produced by Black journalists within the state. 

This effort will not only preserve the rich history of Black journalism but also empower these newspapers to leverage AI tools, enabling them to innovate and remain competitive in a rapidly changing media landscape.

“This collaboration with Nvidia puts the Black Press at the forefront of journalism and technology, unlocking innovative opportunities that will drive the future of our industry,” said Regina Wilson, Executive Director of CBM.

Aligning with Statewide Educational Initiatives

In addition to the partnership with CBM, Nvidia has also announced a collaboration with the state of California to provide generative AI training for educators and students. 

This initiative aligns with the state’s broader goals of workforce development and economic growth, ensuring that California’s educational institutions have access to cutting-edge AI resources.
