FanDuel, North America’s online gaming company, announced a $1 million donation to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) to support students at 11 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across North Carolina.
The funding is aimed at alleviating financial pressures for these students by covering essential needs, including technology, housing, food security, and tuition costs, through UNCF’s Emergency Student Aid program.
Supporting Educational Access and Equity
The donation ceremony took place on September 29 at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium, where representatives from FanDuel and UNCF gathered to mark the milestone.
In attendance were Carolina Panthers legend Mike Rucker, FanDuel’s Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Keita Young, UNCF Executive Vice President Dr. Maurice E. Jenkins, and Carolina Panthers’ Community Relations Director Riley Fields.
“FanDuel is thrilled to deepen our commitment to UNCF’s mission of empowering underserved students to succeed in college and beyond,” said Alison Kutler, FanDuel’s Vice President of Responsible Gaming and Community Impact in a press release.
“We aim to make a positive impact in North Carolina communities and are proud to help students overcome financial barriers and achieve their educational goals.”
An Exemplary Partnership for Progress
Through this partnership, UNCF will direct FanDuel’s contribution toward addressing critical student needs.
These funds are set to benefit students at institutions like North Carolina A&T State University, Shaw University, and Winston-Salem State University.
“FanDuel’s continued support is a model for private sector engagement in higher education. Together, we’re building brighter futures for students who need it most,” said Larry A. Griffith, UNCF’s Executive Vice President for Programs and Student Services.
