A Latina-founded nonprofit, AIandYou, has launched a campaign to prepare young people of color and women against possible AI-generated misinformation leading up to the 2024 presidential election.

AIandYou was founded in 2019 to educate marginalized communities about artificial intelligence (AI) to help end users understand how AI impacts their daily lives.
The nonprofit encourages communities to understand AI’s potential and pitfalls, providing online resources in easy-to-understand languages.
Founder and CEO Susan Gonzales has years of experience in tech and policy and serves on the National AI Advisory Committee, advising President Biden and the Administration on the National Cybersecurity Initiative.
She has launched a public awareness campaign educating voters on how AI could affect next year’s election.
“Our democracy is at risk if people do not understand the AI basics and how it is being used in this campaign,” Gonzales told Politico.
A Multicultural Public Awareness Campaign
AIandYou is the first to launch a multicultural public awareness campaign on AI and the 2024 election, aimed at young voters of color and women.
The 2024 election will present unprecedented amounts of disinformation, and voters will have difficulty differentiating fact from fiction, AIandYou states.
This disinformation is expected to sway voters, especially those new to the electoral process.
Based on recent elections, women and people of color were instrumental in deciding elections.
Voters must be aware of deepfakes – the manipulation of facial appearance through deep generative methods – and other misinformation to protect their vote.
The campaign has a range of resources for voters to learn from, such as a 2024 Election Educational Video describing how AI will impact the 2024 election.
It also has an online database of election-related AI news, Frequently Asked Questions and a glossary explaining terms frequently used when discussing AI and elections.
According to Politico, the campaign is also planning to start its own AI-generated ads to make voters familiar with content with deepfakes.
The ads are still being developed, but one example could be an AI-generated video of President Biden saying something he didn’t say, with a message saying that the content was not actual and directing viewers toward AIandYou.
