Kenya’s Uncover Raises $1.4M To Expand Personalized Skincare Products And Platform

Published:

Uncover, a Kenyan data-driven skincare brand, has successfully closed a $1.4 million seed II funding round to accelerate the growth of its innovative tech platform, introduce new products, and expand its market presence.

This round, co-led by EQ2 Ventures and IgniteXL Ventures, saw participation from notable investors such as Chui Ventures, Samata Capital, and Altree Capital.

Driving Personalization Through Data

Founded in 2021 by Sneha Mehta (CEO), Jade Oyateru (COO), and Catherine Lee, Uncover has distinguished itself in the beauty industry by focusing on the unique skin care needs of melanated women.

The company utilizes thousands of data points to personalize its offerings while also providing educational resources and community engagement.

This approach has enabled Uncover to build a digital community of over 200,000 women across Kenya, Nigeria, and the diaspora.

The company’s commitment to data-driven innovation is central to its mission of addressing the skincare needs of women of color who have been historically underserved by the beauty industry.

“Uncover is much more than a skincare brand. We are a movement to prioritize women of color who have been sidelined by the beauty industry for generations,” said Mehta, according to Disrupt Africa.

Expanding Market Reach

With this new funding, Uncover plans to further develop its platform, enhancing its capabilities to deliver more personalized skincare solutions.

Uncover’s growth trajectory includes a tenfold increase in revenue over the past 24 months. The brand recently expanded into Uganda and Ghana, and with the new funds, it aims to enter additional markets.

This expansion is not limited to the African continent; Uncover is also targeting diaspora populations in North America, where demand for its products is rising.

“This funding will empower us to unlock our next stage of growth, expand our product portfolio, enhance our technology, and reach even more consumers seeking personalized skincare solutions,” said Jade Oyateru, Co-Founder and COO.
