Kenyan HR Tech Startup Workpay Raises $5M To Expand Across Africa

Published:

Kenyan HR tech startup, Workpay, has successfully raised $5 million in a Series A funding round, spearheaded by Norrsken22

This new investment will bolster Workpay’s expansion across Africa, enhance its AI-driven performance management tools, and stabilize its financial services, TechCrunch first reported.

The funding follows a $2.7 million pre-Series A round in 2023.

Strategic Funding to Accelerate Growth

Founded in 2019 by Paul Kimani and Jackson Kungu, Workpay has quickly positioned itself as a leading workforce management platform in Africa.

The cloud-based solution offers a suite of HR services, including payroll processing, time and attendance tracking, leave management, and Employer of Record (EOR) solutions.

With a client base of over 1,000 businesses across 20 African countries, Workpay’s technology is designed to help companies improve productivity and ensure compliance with labor laws, especially for remote workers.

The latest funding round saw participation from major investment firms including Visa, Axion, Y Combinator, and existing investors like Saviu Ventures and Verod-Kepple Africa Ventures.

These funds will not only support Workpay’s expansion but will also allow the company to deepen its financial product offerings, such as medical and vehicle insurance, while exploring partnerships for lending, saving, and investment options.

Leveraging AI for Enhanced Workforce Management

Workpay plans to use AI to advance its performance management tools, which are crucial for businesses managing a distributed workforce.

The startup aims to make its platform more robust, catering to the needs of companies with employees spread across multiple jurisdictions.

This funding round and the strategic partnerships it enables are key to Workpay’s vision of becoming the go-to HR and payroll solution for businesses across Africa.

As the company continues to scale, it will navigate the complex regulatory environments in each country it operates, ensuring that it remains compliant while delivering high-value services to its customers.
