GloRilla Invests $25K In Tech Hub At Hometown High School

Published:

Memphis rapper GloRilla, born Gloria Hallelujah Woods, has funded a new tech-enabled media center at her alma mater, Melrose High School.

On December 18, 2024, the Memphis native donated $25,000 to fund the creation of a modern, tech-enabled media center.

This space, which will serve students and the surrounding Orange Mound community, will be named the Gloria H. Woods Media Center in her honor.

“The fact that I have the ability to do it now warms my heart,” GloRilla said during her visit.

A Media Hub for Literacy and Learning

The new media center will offer students access to technology-enhanced learning tools, a safe and flexible study environment, and resources to promote literacy.

School officials shared that the space aims to provide opportunities for academic growth and engagement for the 800 students of Melrose High and the broader Orange Mound area.

This donation follows GloRilla’s history of supporting educational programs in Memphis.

In 2022, she contributed $25,000 to Martin Luther King Jr. College Preparatory High School’s fine arts program.

The following year, she donated $20,000 to Westside Middle School’s fine arts initiatives, sharing her joy in revisiting her roots.

“I always have to come back to the city because the city made me,” she stated.

A Rising Star Committed to Giving Back

Since graduating from Melrose High in 2017, GloRilla has climbed to fame with hit singles like “Tomorrow 2” and “Yeah Glo!”

In 2024 alone, she earned Grammy nominations, a key to the City of Memphis, and accolades as one of the Associated Press’ “Breakthrough Entertainers.”

Reflecting on the day, GloRilla posted on Instagram, “Bought my first piece of land in my city today along with giving back to my high school I graduated from & they named their media center after me. God is good & life is great. I’m so thankful.”
