Georgia Tech Joins The Growing List Of Organizations Removing DEI-Related Language From Their Websites

Retailers, tech companies, and the federal government have all reduced their DEI efforts; now, this has extended to higher education. George Tech has joined the growing number of organizations that have removed DEI-related language from their websites.

Georgia Tech dismantling DEI programs in 2023

Georgia Tech started dismantling its DEI programs in 2023, and now the university’s website has been changed to align with these adjustments. “In 2023, Georgia Tech made the decision to begin discontinuing DEI programs, which included eliminating positions and realigning funding.” Blair Meeks, a Georgia Tech spokesperson, said in an email to FOX 5.

“As a critical research partner for the federal government, Georgia Tech will ensure compliance with all federal and state rules as well as policies set by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia to continue accelerating American innovation and competitiveness. Efforts to examine and update our web presence are part of this ongoing work,” she adds.

Georgia NAACP President Gerald Griggs isn’t pleased with the changes and has asked for a formal meeting, Fox 5 reported. “If it’s just happening on the website, we can only imagine what’s happening internally. So we need to have a robust conversation.”

Which other companies or organizations have removed DEI language from their websites?

Google’s parent company, Alphabet, released its annual report on Wednesday and left out a sentence saying the company was “committed to making diversity, equity, and inclusion part of everything we do and to growing a workforce that is representative of the users we serve.” But that sentence was present in the previous reports in 2021 until 2024.

Aldi recently removed any evidence linked to DEI from its website as the company website previously featured an “Aldinclusive” section that said “diversity strengthens us,” according to HR Brew.

In January, Amazon removed the “Equity for Black People” and “LGBTQ+ Rights” sections and any mention of “transgender” from its company’s policy.
