Future’s Freewishes Foundation Opens New STEAM Lab In Atlanta

Published:

Future’s Freewishes Foundation has opened a new “sleek and innovative” STEAM lab in Atlanta, Georgia in partnership with 2K Foundations.

The “I Am a Dreamer” lab aims to bridge the educational gap for students in underserved communities by providing access to science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) education, resources, and tools.

“It’s important that all students receive access to STEAM education regardless of their background,” said Future, according to Afrotech.

“Our Freewishes Foundation, with the support of the 2K Foundations, has helped make this possible in our Atlanta community. We’re thankful for their commitment to support our initiative.”

The lab is reportedly located near where Future grew up. By including art as a key component, Future and his sister Tia Wilburn, the executive director of Freewishes, aim to support creativity alongside academic development.

The Freewishes Foundation

Founded by Grammy-award winning Artist Nayvadius ‘Future’ Wilburn, alongside his mother Stephanie Jester and sister Tia Wilburn, The Freewishes Foundation is driven by a mission to empower underserved communities.

Beyond the STEAM lab, the organization provides a wide range of programs focused on education, health and wellness, technology, meals, housing, and more. By offering after-school programs that enhance reading comprehension, math skills, and leadership abilities, the foundation helps students develop self-confidence and decision-making skills.

In terms of health and wellness, they promote healthy lifestyles for seniors and create awareness of healthcare options within the community.

Additionally, the foundation integrates technology into its initiatives to address the challenges faced by both youth and senior citizens, providing computer literacy workshops and educational classes for higher learning.

Continuing the family legacy

The foundation is dedicated to Future’s maternal great-grandmother, Ruby Nell Gates, affectionately known as Big Mama, whose home was always open to those in need. The STEAM lab is an extension of this legacy.

“Our objective in providing educational opportunities is to ensure inclusive and quality education for all students, regardless of income and background,” Tia Wilburn said in a statement, per Afrotech.

“There is a major gap in STEM education that impacts marginalized communities, and we want to close that gap so that no child is left behind.”
