Dr. Dre’s career
Dr. Dre’s career began in Compton, California, as a rapper and producer with the hip-hop group N.W.A. After spending several years in the music business, he founded Beats by Dr. Dre in 2006 with Jimmy Iovine. The brand was acquired by Apple in 2014, with Dre saying at the time, “They need to update the Forbes list, s*** just changed.”
Dre is also the founder of Aftermath Entertainment and a member of the Recording Academy’s National Board of Trustees. The Recording Academy established the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award in 2023, with artists Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, and Pharrell Williams receiving the prize.
