DeepMind Partners With The African Institute To Launch AI Program In Africa

Published:

To increase AI representation in Africa, DeepMind partnered with The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences to launch a new AI program.

DeepMind, a cutting-edge AI company compromised of scientists, engineers, and researchers, is committed to using science to help benefit humanity.

The AI company believes an essential part of the program’s development will be its expansion to different countries. To achieve this, DeepMind has launched a scholarship program to ensure AI technologies are built to benefit everyone.

The scholarship program will provide talented students from underrepresented backgrounds with university scholarships, equipment, computers, and career mentoring. Additionally, it is the first step to building a more inclusive AI community worldwide.

Scholars will also be connected to a DeepMind mentor who will support them on their educational journey. They will also be able to attend leading AI academic conferences and DeepMind events.

“Our scholarships provide financial support to students from underrepresented groups, who are seeking graduate studies in AI-related and adjacent fields,” said DeepMind in an online statement

As AI technologies continue to dominate the internet, many have criticized AI for being biased due to the lack of diverse representation in the humans who made them, but DeepMind is working to change that. The platform’s new scholarship program will open the door for marginalized students to tap into their full potential.

The DeepMind Academic Fellowship Program will also help early-career researchers build the experiences that will enable them to progress to other leadership roles in the future.
