Dating App Focused On Black And POC Singles Raises $750k In Seed Funding

MM, a dating app that merges technology with real-life experiences, has raised £600K ($750K) in seed funding.

The Dating App MM

MM, launched in 2019, is a dating and events technology app merging AI with real-life events designed to help singles connect both in the app and in person.

The company hosts events and experiences tailored for members to meet and network in person while doing the things they enjoy.

MM is available to and has members from all races and genders but considers key cultural nuances within African, Caribbean, and African-American communities to help facilitate connections.

“We are intimately aware that this is an underserved market and have the lived experience of the difficulties men and women from this community face when trying to meet people,” said Co-Founder of MM, Michelle Jima.

The in-real-life (IRL) feature allows users to view profiles in the app that are within their immediate vicinity in real life at local hotspots such as restaurants, bars, and music festivals.

To date, there have been over two million matches on MM, and the platform has facilitated thousands of relationships, including several dozen engagements and marriages, according to TechRound.

Seed Funding

The dating app has now raised £600K ($750K) in seed funding from early-stage investment firm SFC Capital alongside several prominent angel investors.

The funding will facilitate the team’s growth, significant upgrades to app features, and marketing in key cities.

“We listened intently to our customers who provided valuable feedback on how we could improve their experience,” said Co-Founder of MM Dayo Israel.

“We believe this funding will help us achieve our milestones, and we are extremely driven and excited by what we are building and the sense of community we are cultivating around MM.”
