Education and training options in the field of cybersecurity

How secure are tech jobs in cybersecurity these days? Despite the current layoffs happening in the industry, the demand for these professionals is only expected to grow in the coming years.  A career in the tech industry can be both personally satisfying and financially rewarding which are good motivators. So how do you get started in cyber sec? 

1. A Degree: So if you’re looking for a comprehensive education that covers a wide range of topics, a bachelor’s or master’s degree in cybersecurity could be an option. These programs typically include coursework in computer networking, cryptography, and security protocols, as well as hands-on experience with cybersecurity tools and techniques. A degree can be a valuable credential when it comes to job hunting but there are more ways to get into the field.

2. Certifications: If you want to specialize in a particular area of cybersecurity looking for a shorter way to get in, getting the necessary certifications are the way to go. There are many different certifications available such as the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH). 

3. On-the-job training: Some cybersecurity professionals receive their education and training on the job while learning from more experienced colleagues. This can be a great way to learn while also getting paid, and many employers offer opportunities for ongoing training and professional development.

4. Self-study: There are allot plenty of resources available for self-study in the field of cybersecurity. Online tutorials and courses are good ways to learn about different topics most of the time being taught by an expert in the field. 

However you go about it, get started and keep learning. The field of cybersecurity is constantly evolving and staying up-to-date with the latest certs is essential. However you go about your education and training, you can become a valuable member of a team and help keep people and organizations safe from cyber threats.
