FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A new fish and wildlife commissioner has been appointed for Kentucky’s 6th District, and he is the first African-American named to the commission, Gov. Andy Beshear’s office said.

Jerry Ferrell of Richmond will represent Anderson, Boyle, Casey, Clark, Estill, Fayette, Franklin, Garrard, Jessamine, Lee, Lincoln, Madison, Mercer, Powell, Rockcastle, Scott and Woodford counties, the governor’s office said.

Ferrell takes part in fishing competitions all through the state and could be a little game hunter. He may be a resigned production controller from Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, in Georgetown. He drives a bus for Madison District schools and works in sporting merchandise, the governor’s office said. Beshear too named Check Nethery of Louisville as sportsmen’s contact. Nethery will give a coordinate interface to the governor’s office for outdoors enthusiasts, Beshear’s office said. Nethery served three terms as state president of the Association of Kentucky Sportsmen and has served on the Udall Establishment.
