Terra Industries Leads $1M Pre-Seed in Aeon to Build Africa’s Cyber Defense Layer

Published:

Nigerian cybersecurity startup Aeon has secured a $1 million pre-seed investment to build what it describes as a sovereign cyber defense layer for the Global South.

Terra Industries led the round, with participation from DFS Labs, Kaleo Ventures, Seedstars, Ajim Capital, and Resilience17, an early-stage investment firm founded by Flutterwave CEO Olugbenga Agboola.

The funding will support the development of Aeon’s cybersecurity products, business development efforts, and the conversion of existing pilots with financial services and cloud infrastructure companies into commercial deployments.

Aeon is Building the Cybersecurity for Critical Infrastructure in Africa and the Global South

The raise comes as businesses and governments in Africa confront an increasingly complex cyber threat environment. INTERPOL estimated that cyber incidents on the continent led to more than $3 billion in financial losses between 2019 and 2025. In its 2026 review, the organization said artificial intelligence is now connected to 55 percent of reported cybercrimes in Africa.

“Almost every operator we worked with had a dozen security tools and no single view of their exposure,” Samuel Ogbonyomi, co-founder and chief executive officer of Aeon, said in a statement. “Attackers move across all of those systems at once. We built Aeon so a bank or a grid operator can see and fix its whole attack surface from one place.”

Ogbonyomi, Ben Eluan and Alex Idowu started building Aeon in February 2026 through PipeOps, a cloud infrastructure management platform. The CEO described PipeOps as the parent company and Aeon as a product within it. Aeon is developing a cyber defense and compliance platform for high-trust organizations in commercial banking and finance, energy, oil and gas, and mobility.

“We’re selling to high-trust organizations; it’s very important that we’re able to partner with highly networked individuals that ultimately have access to decision-makers across various industries,” Ogbonyomi told TechCabal.

The startup offers two product suites. Aeon Console is a web-based platform that brings together core security operations such as risk detection, vulnerability management, policy enforcement, response, and evidence gathering. Aeon Edge sits inside a customer’s network, giving security teams visibility into connected devices and the ability to isolate compromised ones.

The platform business model is essentially based on annual licensing. Its Console is modular and comes in three tiers, letting customers choose the security functions they need instead of paying for the entire platform. The investment also gives Aeon a commercial relationship with Terra, which secured an additional $18 million seed round in August.

How This Capital Will Further The Goal

Alongside Terra Industries, other investors included Resilience 17 [Founded by Olugbenga Agboola, co-founder and CEO of Flutterwave], Kaleo, DFS Labs, Ajim Capital, and Seedstars.

The cybersecurity startup focuses on critical industries across the Global South, starting with Nigeria. Its solutions are designed around the security challenges, institutional structures, and regulatory requirements specific to each market.

The company has started pilots with financial services and cloud infrastructure businesses in Nigeria. It plans to use the seed funding to strengthen its products, grow its engineering team, and turn those pilots into commercial deployments. This will be across Nigeria’s financial sector, cloud providers, and critical infrastructure operators.

Earlier this year, Aeon also launched a pilot with Terra Industries. After a successful trial, the two firms entered a commercial joint venture to jointly deliver contracts for corporate and government organizations across the Global South, with Terra securing physical assets and Aeon securing digital assets.

“We see Aeon becoming the sovereign cyber defense layer for the Global South, where financial institutions, large corporations, governments, and militaries run their cyber operations on Aeon’s infrastructure. That is our goal: Terra handles physical security, and Aeon handles digital and cyber security,” said Nathan Nwachuku, chief executive officer of Terra Industries.

Under the joint venture, the two companies split responsibilities. Terra will manage the physical security aspect of a contract while Aeon will protect the client’s digital assets. Clients will sign with Terra, and when a deal includes a cybersecurity element, Terra can extend that part to Aeon, Ogbonyomi said.

Aeon runs a cybersecurity marketplace where global security vendors such as Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet and Check Point, alongside African firms like Kenya’s Serianu and Morocco’s Nucleon Security, provide specialized products and services. For the cyber defense platform, the longer-term aim is to develop a cybersecurity infrastructure layer for critical organizations across the Global South.

“We believe Africa’s most critical institutions need security infrastructure built for our realities, regulations, and evolving threat landscape in this post-AI era. Grateful to everyone backing what we’re building. Africa needs to own more of its digital defense infrastructure. We’re building toward that future,” Ogbonyomi said on LinkedIn.
