Former Obama Advisor Joins Akina Technologies PBC As Co-Founder to Empower Black Women

Former Obama administration advisor DeJuana L. Thompson joins Akina Technologies PBC as its co-founder, alongside Lisa Green and Dr. Nashlie Sephus, according to a press release. The innovative platform gives users transformative AI solutions, resources, and a space for community.

This new leadership appointment will allow Akina Technologies to expand and continue to change millions of lives while transforming the future of connection, visibility, and opportunity.

What is Akina Technologies PBC?

Akina Technologies PBC helps create the future of culturally competent generative AI solutions for underrepresented communities. Its two main products, AkinaAI and AkinaConnect, empower women of color with advanced tools, mentorship opportunities, and an encouraging community.

Akina Technologies PBC new hires

DeJuana L. Thompson, a previous advisor to Barack Obama, brings two decades of strategic expertise to the platform. As co-founder, Thompson will help expand the company’s vision to build generative AI solutions that allow Black and BIPOC communities to succeed.

“I’m honored to join Akina Technologies in building a future where BIPOC communities are celebrated, resourced, and equipped to succeed on their own terms,” Thompson says.

Dr. Nashlie Sephus, an Ethical AI developer and leader at Amazon Web Services, will guide the evaluation of AkinaAI. Her knowledge will ensure that AkinaAI sets a global benchmark for inclusive, fair, and culturally distinct generative AI that mirrors the requirements of underserved communities.

Lastly, Lisa Green, a well-known business executive with years of experience at global brands like Unilever, Estée Lauder, and LVMH, will supervise Akina Technologies’ professional networking potential, helping underrepresented communities access mentorship opportunities and sponsorship.
