Black Aerospace Engineer Tackles Hearing Loss With Eco-Friendly Headphones

Justin Lee, an aerospace engineer and Tuskegee University alumnus, has created a device to support people with hearing loss. 

Inspired by his close friend, Kenneth Tissot, a Vietnam veteran who struggled with hearing the television, Lee founded Quantum Senses in 2021. 

The company’s flagship product, Earcoustic headphones, is a non-electronic hearing amplifier that enhances sound for individuals with mild to moderate hearing loss. 

At a highly affordable price of just $19.99, the product is designed to bridge the gap for those who may not have the means to afford expensive hearing aids.

Tackling Hearing Loss Affordably

Recognizing the high cost of traditional hearing aids, which are often out of reach for individuals on fixed incomes, Lee set out to design a budget-friendly solution. 

Unlike conventional devices, the Earcoustic headphones do not rely on electronics, batteries, or wires. 

The eco-friendly, lightweight design reportedly provides a simple, yet effective solution for improving sound amplification.

“My friend Kenneth’s experience made me realize how crucial an affordable alternative could be for many others,” Lee shared with Black News.

“People shouldn’t have to sacrifice their hearing due to financial challenges.”

Addressing a Growing Health Issue

Hearing loss is the third most common chronic condition in the U.S., according to the CDC. 

As National Audiology Awareness Month highlights the importance of auditory health, Lee’s innovative product arrives at a critical time. 

Excessive noise exposure and aging are among the leading causes of hearing loss, yet many individuals struggle to access proper devices, especially with private insurance not always covering hearing aids.

Earcoustic headphones are designed to enhance everyday listening experiences, whether watching TV, attending events, or participating in meetings. 

Lee’s invention is not meant to replace hearing aids but to complement them by offering a versatile, affordable option. 

The product has already gained traction with senior facilities and assistive-technology centers, selling between 300-400 units within a few months of launch.
