Kickstarter has announced the appointment of Courtney Brown Warren as its new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO).
Warren, who joined Kickstarter in April 2023, has been key in driving several successful marketing initiatives.
As CMO, she will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Kickstarter’s marketing strategy, including product marketing, creative, communications, content, social media, experiential, partnerships, and sponsorships.
Warren will also manage Kickstarter’s sales and community outreach strategy, focusing on cultivating a passionate, engaged, and empowered community on the platform.
A Proven Leader in Marketing
Brown Warren brings over two decades of experience working with global brands across diverse industries, including tech, media, and entertainment.
Before joining Kickstarter, she served as Twitter’s Global Head of Brand, where she managed a global team responsible for go-to-market brand strategy, brand campaign management, talent, and emerging markets, as well as digital, content, and editorial strategy.
Prior to that, she was Head of Creative at Audible, where she launched two high-growth subscription startups and revenue streams—Audible Escape and Audible for Business.
Warren’s resume also includes roles at L’Oreal, WarnerMedia (Time Inc.), and the Madison Square Garden Company.
Pioneering Marketing Initiatives
Since joining Kickstarter, Warren has spearheaded several noteworthy campaigns.
These include Kickstarter’s first-ever out-of-home campaign, “Ideas in Action,” and the Kickstarter Festival in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, which celebrated the brand’s 15th anniversary.
Under her leadership, Kickstarter has also formed key partnerships with FOX’s Food Stars, the New York Liberty, and Spotify’s Findaway Voices.
One of Warren’s most notable achievements is the substantial growth of Kickstarter’s social media presence.
Under her direction, the platform experienced double-digit follower growth and a 482% increase in engagement across all social channels.
Additionally, Kickstarter’s YouTube channel saw an astounding 1,386.7% increase in new subscribers.
“As I step into this new role as Chief Marketing Officer, I’m even more inspired than ever to engage, educate, and empower the community that has made us who we are and introduce our brand to a whole new generation of creators and backers,” Brown Warren said in a press release.
Warren will continue to report to Everette Taylor, CEO of Kickstarter.
“Courtney’s passion for storytelling and her proven marketing expertise have already made a mark on our brand,” Taylor stated.
“I’m excited to see how she continues to leverage marketing to invigorate the brand and champion the voices and ideas of our creators and backers around the world. Courtney will also play a critical strategic role in the adoption of new business lines and features that will positively impact our users and drive significant growth for the company.”
