Health In Her HUE, a digital health app focusing on reducing health disparities for women of color, has announced a $3 million seed round.
Health In Her HUE
The digital health app connects Black women to the health care providers, services, and resources committed to their health and well-being.
It was founded in 2018 by public health innovator Ashlee Wisdom and Eddwina Bright – who is no longer with the company.
After getting her public health master’s and tired of reading research papers about the disparate healthcare outcomes for Black women, Wisdom had an idea.
“I decided I wanted to do something to support Black women and women of color to better manage their health and also better navigate the US healthcare system,” Wisdom told The Guardian.
“Ultimately, our vision for Health In Her Hue is to be the first touchpoint for women of color managing their healthcare.”
While leveraging the power of technology, media, and community to improve health outcomes for Black women and women of color, the platform secured $1 million in pre-seed funding in 2021.
It has continued to grow rapidly since.
The $3M Seed Round
Health In Her Hue now has nearly 13,000 members with 1,3000 health providers across 60 specialties, from therapy to chiropractic.
Wisdom told TechCrunch that the company will use its seed round, led by Seae Ventures, to expand its products and programs.
That will include expanding its current Care program, which provides culturally tailored health education classes, and adding new topics to its platform, including fertility, postpartum recovery, and endometriosis.
It will also launch a product to answer health questions via video from clinical experts.
Others participating in this seed round include Johnson & Johnson Impact Ventures, HBCU Founders Fund, Stanford Impact Fund, and Morgan Stanely Inclusive Ventures Labs.
To date, the company has raised $4.2 million in funding.
“I want to ensure that more women of color and individuals can benefit from the valuable offerings we provide,” said Wisdom as she spoke of the future plans for the app.
