We all know the importance of connecting with like-minded folks, and conferences are a key way to do just that with professionals in your industry.
In particular, conferences for people of color in tech provide a safe space for professionals to network, grow in their careers, and learn from industry leaders and executives who understand their unique challenges and opportunities.
It also allows Black and Latine professionals to build their professional brand and increase visibility within their chosen industry.
Getting past the cost barrier
People often cite cost as one of the biggest barriers to attending tech conferences, but it doesn’t have to be!
The cost of attendance can differ depending on the conference and the level of access included in the ticket.
Many conferences offer discounted rates for those who register early, as well as students, graduates, and young professionals starting out in their careers, plus there may be grants and financial assistance programs available. If the conference is membership-driven, members often get discounted admission.
You can also look into attending a single-day event or join virtually (these tickets usually come free or at a discounted rate) s or consider volunteering as a way to get in for free!
Finally, ask your manager to invest in your career development by paying for your ticket. They may even opt for premium or platinum packages that provide you with additional access and benefits compared to standard tickets.
